PIPING DESIGN ENGINEER
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Is the responsible person for piping design activities on projects.
Ensures the timely and required quality performance in piping design within the manhour budget.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Responsible for safe and economical design to the relevant design codes (e.g. American, Belgian, German, British, Dutch, etc.).
Preparation of the piping scope, manhour needs, job procedures and instructions. In cooperation with head piping design section and Project Engineer, also collection of all basic information.
Coordination of technical and organizational aspects of all piping work on a project.
Organize, in close cooperation with head piping design section, the piping design project team and take care of sufficient qualified manpower,
Taking care of distribution and the rapid handling of manufacturers drawings.
Coordination of draughting work done by contractors.
Coordination and issue to the Construction Supervision Division of the final piping specification and piping and support drawings for contracting of piping site work.
Prepares all documents and takes care of all piping-up of models.
Checks the documents prepared under his supervision.
Makes sure that all piping design drawings and documents, prepared by himself or under his supervision, meet the requirements as laid down in the (Project) Quality Plan.
Is responsible for:
a)Physical progress assessment per document.
b)Forecasting manhours-to-complete.
c)Defining and estimating scope changes related to his piping design activities.
Is responsible for:
– Supervising and coordinating the work of personnel assigned to him
– The quality of work assigned to him.
– Adherence to working methods and project procedure.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Higher Technical School (A1 level):
certificate in Mechanical Engineering with additional courses (or equivalent).
Additional courses in piping design and engineering.
Languages
English, preferably also French and German.
Experience
10+ years of experience in piping design, including 2+ years of experience in plant layout/ equipment arrangement design.
Experience obtained in designs for oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical and preferably also in energy/power plants.
Experience in requisitioning and cost estimating.
Basic experience in pipe erection at site.
Professional knowledge
Sound knowledge of piping design (incl. supporting).
Broad knowledge of piping interfaces with other professional disciplines.
Knowledge of:
a)Plant layout design.
b)General knowledge of Dutch Steam Act, TUV and ASME code requirements; all related to piping (including cross-country).
c)Various types of piping materials.
d)Pipe erection cost.
e)Shop fabrication techniques.
f)Pipe wrapping and coating techniques.
g)Inspection techniques.
Workable knowledge of steel/concrete structures.
